Why Lead Deserves Extra Attention During Pregnancy and Childhood
Lead exposure is especially important during pregnancy and early childhood. Lead can pass to an unborn baby during pregnancy, and young children are particularly vulnerable to its effects.

What Water Testing Can Tell You
Testing can measure lead at the specific taps used for drinking, cooking, formula preparation and food preparation. Results can also be compared between outlets when the goal is to determine whether a concern is isolated to one fixture or appears elsewhere in the plumbing system.
A newer faucet does not automatically make testing unnecessary. Lead can originate from service lines, solder, valves, brass components and other plumbing upstream of the fixture. In addition, federal plumbing rules use a defined maximum lead content for products described as lead free; the term does not literally mean zero lead.
